Agra Fort – The Mughal Architectural Wonder

A red sand stone marvel, a Mughal architectural wonder and Akbar's dream fort, all in together make Agra Fort a great travel attraction of Agra India. Located on the banks of river Yamuna, Agra fort was primarily a military establishment during Akbar's reign. Later on when Shah Jahan came to throne, he converted this fort into a palace for the royal family.


Agra fort or Agra Red Fort(as known popularly) is a brilliant example of the great Mughal architecture. There were more then 500 buildings in the fort during the Mughal rule, which were later destroyed by the British. Today you can see their ruins while visiting Agra fort. Places like Anguri Bagh, Golden Pavilions, Jahangiri Mahal, Takht-i-Jahangir, Naubat Khana and Rang Mahal are worth watching.

Sikandar Lodhi, the first Sultan of Delhi, also lived in this fort when he shifted to Agra.

The Agra Fort plays a key role in the Sherlock Holmes mystery, 'The Sign of the Four' by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Even the song Jashan E Bahara from the movie Jodha Akbar was also shot here.

The Agra Fort was featured in the music video for Habibi Da, a hit song of Egyptian pop star Hisham Abbas.
